The ICC is giving importance to the BCB’s advice

Uncertainty continues over whether Bangladesh will participate in the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, with security concerns in India remaining a central issue. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has already communicated its apprehensions to the International Cricket Council (ICC) via official correspondence, indicating a reluctance to play matches in India under current circumstances.

According to the BCB, the ICC has responded positively, emphasising that it values the Board’s input and is committed to ensuring Bangladesh’s full and uninterrupted participation in the tournament. In an official statement, the BCB confirmed that the message from cricket’s governing body reassured them of ICC’s steadfast commitment to addressing security concerns.

“The ICC has expressed its willingness to work closely with the BCB to resolve the security issues raised and has assured that the Board’s suggestions and recommendations will be taken seriously as part of the tournament’s comprehensive security plan,” the statement read.

Recently, some media reports, notably from Cricinfo, claimed that the ICC had issued an ultimatum to Bangladesh, warning that the team must play in India or face a points deduction. The BCB categorically denied these allegations, describing them as “completely false and baseless.” Officials emphasised that the actual communications with the ICC bear no resemblance to such claims.

The BCB remains optimistic that through continued dialogue and mutual understanding, a practical and amicable solution will be reached. Such an outcome would allow Bangladesh to participate successfully in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

Bangladesh has been drawn into Group C of the tournament, alongside Nepal, Italy, England, and the West Indies. Initially, the team was scheduled to play three matches in Kolkata and one in Mumbai. However, in light of recent security concerns in India, the BCB has formally declined to host its matches there.
