The Bangladesh Cricket Board has announced a 15-member squad for the forthcoming One-Day International series against Zimbabwe as part of a full multi-format tour that will also include one Test match and three Twenty20 Internationals. The tour will begin with the solitary Test before moving into the ODI series, with the T20I fixtures bringing the campaign to a close.
The selectors have retained the core of the squad that featured in Bangladesh’s most recent ODI series against Australia on home soil, signalling confidence in the group’s recent performances and continuity in team selection. One notable omission, however, is Sheikh Mehedi Hasan, who earned a recall for the third ODI of that series but has not been included in the squad for the Zimbabwe tour. The selection reflects an effort to strike a balance between experienced campaigners and emerging talents as Bangladesh continue to build stability in the 50-over format.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz will captain the side, while Najmul Hossain Shanto has been appointed vice-captain. Miraz’s consistent all-round performances and growing leadership credentials in limited-overs cricket have strengthened the selectors’ faith in him as the team’s leader. Shanto, meanwhile, remains one of Bangladesh’s most dependable top-order batters and will play a key role in guiding the batting unit.
Bangladesh have suffered a setback with the absence of Litton Kumar Das, who has been ruled out of the ODI series due to injury despite initially being named in the announced squad. His unavailability is expected to hand wicketkeeping responsibilities to Nurul Hasan Sohan, who is likely to play an important role both behind the stumps and in the middle order.
The batting department features Soumya Sarkar, Mohammad Saif Hassan, Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Najmul Hossain Shanto and Towhid Hridoy. Captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Mosaddek Hossain Saikat provide all-round options capable of contributing with both bat and ball. The spin attack will be led by Rishad Hossain and Tanvir Islam, while the pace department comprises Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam and Nahid Rana, offering a blend of experience, left-arm variety and raw pace.
The three-match ODI series is scheduled to begin on 6 July, with the remaining fixtures set for 9 and 11 July. All three matches will be played at Harare Sports Club, with each contest beginning at 1:30 pm Bangladesh time.
Before the ODI series gets underway, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe will meet in the only Test of the tour on 28 June. The tour will then conclude with a three-match T20I series, giving the visitors valuable match practice across all three international formats.
The Zimbabwe assignment comes at an important stage of Bangladesh’s international calendar. Team management are expected to approach each format with separate tactical plans, using the tour to assess combinations, strengthen squad depth and fine-tune preparations ahead of a demanding schedule later in the season. The series also presents an opportunity for several players to cement their places in the national side through consistent performances in overseas conditions.
