India’s teenage prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi continues to captivate the cricket world with his extraordinary performances on the international stage. On Sunday, during the third and final Twenty20 International against Zimbabwe, Suryavanshi was on the verge of becoming the youngest player to score a century in international cricket before a spectacular catch by Brad Evans brought his innings to an end. Despite missing out on that landmark, the prodigiously talented batsman secured another world record by the end of the match.
Suryavanshi was named Player of the Series, making him the youngest player ever to receive the accolade in international cricket history. Across the three-match T20I series against Zimbabwe, the young opener accumulated 151 runs off just 77 deliveries, including two half-centuries, finishing as the leading run-scorer of the series.
At just 15 years and 121 days old, Suryavanshi claimed the Player of the Series award in only his second international series representing India. In doing so, he surpassed the previous record held by Afghan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman. Mujeeb had set the mark in 2018 when he was named Player of the Series against Zimbabwe in a One-Day International series at the age of 16 years and 325 days.
This feat marks the second world record established by Suryavanshi in his burgeoning six-match international career. Earlier in the same series, the left-handed batsman entered the history books by becoming the youngest player to score a half-century in international cricket during the opening T20I.
Suryavanshi’s meteoric rise highlights a remarkable start to his career, characterized by aggressive stroke play and exceptional maturity beyond his years.
