Last week, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced the squad for the 2025 Hong Kong Sixes tournament. The event, played in a six-a-side format, will see Bangladesh led by Akbar Ali. The tournament will take place at the Hong Kong Recreation Ground from 7th to 9th November 2025.
The Bangladesh team departed for Hong Kong last night to participate in the tournament. All was set for Saifuddin to join the squad, but he has been ruled out at the last moment due to an injury. Saifuddin sustained a heel injury during a practice session in Chattogram. The recovery process will take at least a week, meaning he will not be available for the competition. In his place, Habibur Rahman Sohan has been called up to join the team.
The Hong Kong Sixes tournament, which began in 2002, was held regularly until 2012. After a break, the tournament resumed in 2017 and was last played in 2024. This year marks the second consecutive edition of the event. In the previous tournament, Bangladesh made it to the semifinals.
