Mosaddek Returns After Long Absence For Australia Series

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced a 15-member squad for the first two One-Day Internationals (ODIs) of the upcoming three-match series against Australia, with all-rounder Mosaddek Hossain earning a recall to the national side after an extended absence from international cricket.

The return of Mosaddek is the most notable feature of the squad announcement. The 30-year-old all-rounder has not featured in an ODI for Bangladesh since August 2022 and is set to make his comeback after nearly four years away from the format. His inclusion adds experience and versatility to a squad preparing for a challenging home series against Australia.

Mosaddek has previously been valued for his ability to contribute in multiple disciplines, offering Bangladesh an additional batting option in the middle order as well as useful bowling support. His return reflects the selectors’ decision to strengthen the squad with experienced players ahead of a high-profile assignment.

Another significant inclusion is experienced wicketkeeper-batter Nurul Hasan. Popularly known as Sohan, he returns to the ODI squad after missing Bangladesh’s most recent series against New Zealand in April. The squad changes mean that Afif Hossain and Mahidul Islam Ankon, who were included in the New Zealand ODI squad, have been left out for the opening two matches against Australia.

The three-match ODI series will begin on 9 June in Dhaka. The second match is scheduled for 11 June, while the third and final ODI will be played on 14 June. The BCB has so far announced the squad for only the first two fixtures of the series.

Bangladesh will be captained by Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who continues to lead the side in the 50-over format. The squad combines established international cricketers with emerging talent as Bangladesh look to build a competitive unit capable of challenging Australia.

The batting line-up includes Soumya Sarkar, Saif Hassan, Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Towhid Hridoy and Litton Kumar Das. The group provides a blend of top-order stability and middle-order firepower.

With the return of Mosaddek and Sohan, Bangladesh have increased their options in both batting and fielding combinations. Their experience is expected to provide valuable support to a squad that includes several younger players.

The bowling attack remains largely unchanged and features a mix of pace and spin. The spin department consists of Rishad Hossain and Tanvir Islam, while the pace unit includes Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam and Nahid Rana.
