Bangladesh will make its first-ever tour of Nepal in March 2027, with the national cricket team set to play a three-match Twenty20 international series against the hosts in Kathmandu. The series will also carry a humanitarian message, as it will be dedicated to those who lost their lives or were affected by devastating floods in Nepal.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed the tour on Wednesday, announcing the schedule for the three matches. The games are set to take place on 26, 28 and 30 March, with all three fixtures scheduled to be held in Nepal’s capital, Kathmandu.
The tour will mark a significant moment in the cricketing relationship between the two countries. Although Bangladesh and Nepal have developed closer sporting ties over the years, Bangladesh have not previously played an international match on Nepalese soil. The upcoming T20I series will therefore provide the first opportunity for the Bangladesh men’s national team to compete in an international fixture in Nepal.
The decision to arrange the series followed discussions between Bangladesh’s Youth and Sports Minister Md Aminul Haque and Nepal’s ambassador to Bangladesh, Ghanshyam Bhandari. As part of the subsequent process, Ambassador Bhandari visited the BCB headquarters on Wednesday, where he held a meeting with BCB president Tamim Iqbal.
The discussions covered the proposed tour as well as broader opportunities to strengthen cricketing cooperation between Bangladesh and Nepal. Both sides also considered ways in which the two countries could use cricket to deepen their sporting relationship and provide practical support for the development of Nepalese cricket.
A key feature of the series will be its humanitarian purpose. According to the BCB, the matches will be dedicated to the victims and people affected by the severe flooding in Nepal. The board has also said that profits generated from the series will be directed towards those affected by the floods.
The BCB expressed its sympathy for the people impacted by the disaster and said the series would provide an opportunity to convey a message of friendship and solidarity at a difficult time. By combining international cricket with a charitable initiative, the tour is expected to give the sporting occasion a wider significance beyond the results on the field.
The two sides also discussed longer-term cooperation in cricket. The BCB has assured the Nepal Cricket Association of continued support for the overall development of the game in Nepal. Potential areas of cooperation include exchanges involving both men’s and women’s teams, High Performance (HP) programmes, player training and technical assistance.
Such exchanges could provide opportunities for players and coaching staff from both countries to gain experience through joint activities and structured programmes. The discussions also indicate an interest in developing cricketing links beyond a single bilateral series.
For Nepal, hosting Bangladesh will bring an established international side to its home ground for a series carrying both sporting and humanitarian significance. For Bangladesh, the tour will represent a new chapter in its international cricketing engagements, as the team prepares to play its first international matches on Nepalese soil.
