In a proactive bid to bolster the country’s cricketing pipeline and provide emerging players with much-needed competitive exposure, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced a brand-new junior cricket tournament. Set to get underway on August 28, this fifty-over competition aims to bridge the gap between age-group cricket and the senior professional level by offering youngsters regular high-intensity match practice.
The tournament will feature three distinct representative sides: the Bangladesh Under-17, Under-19, and Under-23 teams. All matches of this triangular series are scheduled to take place at the iconic Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur. Cricket analysts believe that utilising the country’s premier international venue will provide the teenagers and young adults with invaluable big-match experience and help them adapt better to elite-level pressure.
According to the fixture schedule, the tournament opens on August 28 with a clash between the Under-17 and Under-19 outfits. Following a brief one-day rest period, the Under-19 side will return to action on August 30 to face the Under-23 squad. The opening stage of the competition will follow a double round-robin format, ensuring that every side plays against the other two teams twice. Consequently, each age-group squad is guaranteed at least four competitive matches during the league phase, allowing coaching staff to thoroughly evaluate player development and match temperament.
At the conclusion of the league fixtures, the top two teams on the points table will progress directly to the final, which is scheduled for September 9. All matches throughout the tournament, from the opening fixture to the grand finale, are scheduled to commence at 9:30 AM local time.
Through this innovative domestic initiative, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) hopes to unearth fresh talent, maintain a robust talent pool, and adequately prepare the next generation of cricketers for the rigours of international representation.
