The scale of the first-innings lead placed enormous pressure on Australia. Although the hosts showed greater resistance in their second innings, they could manage only 284. Bangladesh’s bowlers once again maintained control, with Miraz emerging as the key figure.
The experienced all-rounder claimed five wickets in the second innings, including the prized wicket of Smith. Having already contributed 65 runs with the bat, Miraz finished the match with a performance that demonstrated his value in both disciplines.

Bangladesh had previously secured notable Test victories away from home, including their breakthrough overseas success against West Indies in 2009. Their historic win over New Zealand at Mount Maunganui in 2022 further strengthened their reputation as a side capable of competing outside familiar conditions. In 2024, they also demonstrated their growing Test strength by defeating Pakistan in their own country.
The Darwin victory adds another major chapter to that progression. Australia had remained one of the most difficult destinations for Bangladesh in Test cricket, making this result particularly significant.
The match also carries added importance because of its place in the World Test Championship. Bangladesh entered the series needing valuable points, while Australia were among the leading sides in the championship standings.
