Sabbir Rahman recalled as Bangladesh announce squad for Hong Kong Sixes

The Bangladesh Cricket Board has named a seven-member squad for the upcoming Hong Kong Sixes, springing a surprise with the inclusion of experienced hard-hitting batsman Sabbir Rahman. Left-arm pacer Abu Hider Rony will captain the side in the fast-paced, six-a-side tournament.
Scheduled from 30 October to 2 November at the Tin Kwong Road Recreation Ground in Hong Kong, the high-octane competition features twelve participating nations. Known for its ultra-short six-over format and boundary-heavy action, the tournament returns as a platform where power-hitting and strategic innovation take precedence over traditional bowling control.
Bangladesh have been drawn in Group B alongside Asian rivals Sri Lanka and Scotland. Rony’s side face a competitive path through the opening round, where every delivery carries enormous weight given the brief duration of each fixture.
The tournament structure ensures every team remains in contention beyond the initial round robin. According to the tournament rules, the top team from each group advances directly to the main Cup semi-finals. Teams finishing second in their respective groups move into the Plate competition semi-finals, while the third-placed teams compete in the Bowl competition.
Sabbir’s selection brings crucial international experience and big-hitting ability to an otherwise young squad. Known for his aggressive strokeplay, the middle-order batsman will be eager to make his mark in a format perfectly suited to his dynamic style. Alongside skipper Abu Hider Rony and Sabbir, the line-up includes a promising group of domestic talent: Mrittunjoy Chowdhury, Habibur Rahman Sohan, Ahrar Amin, Samaiun Bashir, and Chowdhury Mohammad Jishan.
With a mix of experienced campaigners and energetic young prospects, Bangladesh aim to establish early momentum against Sri Lanka and Scotland as they pursue a deep run in Hong Kong.
